Forrester Research has published its 2016 North American MSSP Wave and, based on the results, it’s clear that Forrester is validating the market’s need for simplified, managed infrastructure security – and the significant impact cloud adoption has on customers’ requirements. I took 3 important things away from this evaluation:
- Forrester is taking the lead on emphasizing the importance of cloud-native capabilities and a deep understanding of public, private and hybrid cloud security challenges.
- The report’s author, Jeff Pollard, appears to have clear vision around the importance of integrating infrastructure security technology, with 24x7 monitoring and alerting services, Threat Intelligence and ongoing compliance services.
- There has been a distinct evolution since the last iteration of this report in 2014. Forrester, it seems, has put a stake in the ground with this Wave by heavily weighting cloud security in its evaluation, and placing a high value on ensuring that companies are secure no matter where they are on their journey to the cloud.
We hear from hundreds of IT teams every month that they have too many point security products to manage, that they don’t want to invest in the security expertise required to stay on top of the threat and compliance landscape, and that they need a “single pane of glass” that shines the light on their infrastructure security posture – whether it’s in their own datacenters or in cloud service providers’. While Alert Logic doesn’t fit the exact mold of an MSSP – we manage our own security technologies vs. those of 3rd parties – we immerse our efforts in the Security-as-a-Service needs of our customers. And from Forrester’s most recent MSSP Wave, The Forrester Wave™: Managed Security Services Providers, North America, Q3 2016, it appears that they are hearing these same needs from the market.
Linking the market needs with our offering, Alert Logic was one of three leaders on the report, top ranked in the Current Offering category and received the highest score in two functional areas within the Current Offering category: Delivery Capability – User Interface & Integrations, and Customer Experience. Alert Logic scored five out of a possible five points on Customer Experience, which we believe validates the idea that customers will consume services how they want, not how MSSPs order them to.
As businesses continue to adopt cloud platforms within their infrastructure strategy, they continue to demand managed security services that support their evolving infrastructure needs. Elasticity, consumption-based pricing, deep understanding and support of public cloud security strategies all play a key role in how Alert Logic has been delivering our Security-as-a-Service solutions for years now. We are ecstatic that both our customers, and we feel the team at Forrester, have seen the value of this effort.
