Alert Logic Makes Three New Key Executive Hires

New Chief Financial Officer to Assist in Continued Global Growth

HOUSTON – August 24, 2016 – Alert Logic, the leading provider of Security-as-a-Service solutions for the cloud, today announced that the company has made three new executive hires that will be instrumental in helping to facilitate its continued global growth. Alert Logic hired Houston-based John Karnes as the new Chief Financial Officer, John Carse as the new Vice President of Security Operations and Bob Layton as Vice President of Global Channels.

Having served as a CFO for the past 16 years in four different organizations, Karnes has proven experience assisting rapidly growing companies, providing expertise in the areas of strategic planning, risk management, controls and corporate governance. Karnes has provided numerous highly entrepreneurial public and emerging-public companies with strategic leadership, access to capital, robust compliance programs and streamlined operational efficiencies.

“John has held a variety of roles over his more than 30-year career in both public and private companies and he will be critical in helping Alert Logic scale its operations and continue to grow our business,” said Gray Hall, CEO of Alert Logic. “He’s a hands-on transactional leader with critical public company experience.”

Karnes has spearheaded more than $15 billion of Wall Street capital markets and M&A transactions, including initial public offerings, private offerings and venture capital and private equity. In addition to serving as CFO for Mariner Energy, KiOR, Houston Exploration, and CyberCash, earlier in his career, Karnes practiced law with the national law firm of Kirkland & Ellis, specializing in public securities offerings and acquisitions.

“Alert Logic is poised for next-level growth with its rapidly expanding customer base, important global partnerships and highly differentiated cybersecurity solution,” said Karnes. “I value the opportunity to contribute to Alert Logic‘s next phase of maturity and, ultimately, help bring these market-leading cybersecurity tools and services to exponentially more businesses.”

John Carse joined Alert Logic in the role of Vice President of Security Operations. In this role, Carse will be responsible for Alert Logic’s global security and compliance teams who provide 24×7 monitoring of its more than 3,800 customers’ IT infrastructures. This includes Alert Logic ActiveWatch Services, Alert Logic LogReview Service, Alert Logic ActiveWatch Premier and all other Security Operations Center (SOC) operations across two continents. Carse joins Alert Logic from JP Morgan Chase where he served as Vice President of Global CyberSecurity Engineering. Carse has significant international experience having lived and worked in Bahrain and Japan, serving in leadership roles at Computer Sciences Corporation, ITT Exelis, FlowBridge and IBM.

Bob Layton joined Alert Logic in the role of Vice President of Global Channels. In this capacity, Layton will guide the channels that are principally responsible for the company’s strong growth in cloud, hosting, global systems integration, distribution and emerging business models in the traditional VAR space.

Layton joins from Pluribus Networks where he served as Vice President of Sales and Channels for the Americas and Europe. In this role, Layton established the Pluribus sales organization, including creating Channel programs for its market-leading software defined networking, analytics and data center virtualization solutions. Prior to Pluribus, Layton was Vice President of Sales for Lumenate, a leading Cisco channel partner. Layton joined Lumenate after eight years at Cisco serving in a series of increasingly responsible sales and channel management leadership roles. Prior to his years at Cisco, Layton held enterprise sales positions with Xerox and Thomson Reuters.
